THEY say all good things come in threes.

If ``they'' means Westfields Sports High School, then the statement is certainly correct.

The school's trio of Kurt Jenner, Andrew Neville and Daniel Tranter represented Australia at the Youth Olympics Festival last weekend and won five medals between them.

Mount Pritchard's Jenner, 15, won a silver medal in the 4x100metre relay, but it was his efforts in the sand that he'll cherish.

A jump of 7.12metres not only secured a convincing gold medal win in the long jump, but surpassed the qualifying distance of 7.10metres required for the World Youth Championships (WYC).

He must exceed the qualifying distance again before April 5 if he hopes to travel with the Australian team to Italy in July for the championships.

Kurt Jenner is now ranked the No.1 under18 in Australia and is in the top five under18s long-jumpers in the world.

Good friend and athletics teammate Andrew Neville, 16, also had a memorable campaign and snared two gold medals.

His golden performances came in the 4x100metre relay and high jump, with a jump of 2.04metres, which cemented a position for him at the centre of the podium. Unlike Jenner, Neville narrowly missed out on the qualifying height of 2.07metres required for the WYC but he is still optimistic.

``I still have another seven or eight more chances to qualify,'' he said.

``I learned a lot during the week we had so, hopefully, that'll help me.''

Medals weren't limited just to track and field, and Daniel Tranter, 17, surprised himself by claiming a silver medal in the 200metre individual medley. ``I wasn't expecting to win a medal, so when I finished in second it was a bit of a shock,'' he said.

In year 12, he also competed in the 100metre breaststroke and also in the 200metre breaststroke and the 400metre individual medley but could not do his best to push for a medal.

``It was a bit hard with the schedule,'' he said.

``Sometimes I'd get out of the swimming pool and jump right back in for another race.''
