The Word Is Strong At Westfields
|On Thursday 24th May Westfields Sports
High School played host to
the Metropolitan South West District Final of the Sydney Morning Herald Plain English
Participants representing Cerdon College, Delaney College, Fairvale High, Granville Boys,
Mary MacKillop, St. Charbel's College and Westfields participated in the competition.
Students at Westfields were entertained with prepared speeches on such diverse topics as social
justice in Australia, cars and the Arab-Israeli Conflict. The competitors were also required to
present a 3 minute impromptu speech: easier said that done!
Congratulations goes to Peter Zivanovikand Hai Van Nguyen (Yr.11) who represented
Westfields. Further accolades to Hai Van who made it through to the Area Final.
Thanks also goes to Eryne Balston (chairperson), Peter Curjak, Matthew Russell, (timekeeper)
and Thao Pham, Steven Burt, Michael Lee, Zara McLeod, Jillian Morrison and Justin Turnbull,
(organisational support) for the smooth running of the competition. All Westfields students:
competitors; helpers; and audience members, were praised by our guests for their friendly support,
efficiency and behaviour.
Stay tuned for more results.... Our talented juniors, Anne Nguyen and Liber Negri
will represent Westfields at the Junior Competition 1st August at Prairiewood.
