Brett Morrison

Westfields Sports High School

Brett Morrison is a highly talented all round sportsman whose commitment and exceptional skill level has been rewarded with his selection as the most outstanding sportsman of the Sydney South West Area in 2003.

In the sport of Hockey this year, Brett has represented his School, Area, State and Nation with pride. Brett inspires his fellow players with a high level of commitment and the strong spirit with which he approaches the game.

As Goalkeeper, Brett’s performances have been highlighted by his stoic defensive capabilities and his superior workrate. Combined with his inspirational leadership and support of fellow players these skills enhanced many dominant performances during the season. These attributes were recognized by Brett’s selection in the NSW CHS Open Team, The NSW All Schools Team and was ultimately named Captain of the Australian U/16 Years Schoolboys team for the 2003 tour of New Zealand. The Australian team remained undefeated during this Three Test Series.

At the Association level Brett represented NSW in the U/18 Years Indoor Hockey team and is a member of the NSW U/17 Years Hockey team.

Brett’s versatility is evidenced by his selection in the Sydney South West Baseball team in 2002 and 2003.

Brett is an impressive young man who is noted for the excellent sportsmanship that he displays. He has shown great respect for the opposition and officials alike.
Brett has proved to be a valued community member at Westfields Sports where he is a Senior Prefect for 2003-2004. He is an impeccable role model and has displayed great loyalty and pride in his school , Area and State. His outstanding sporting success has not changed his demeanour or approach to school, friends or life in general.

Sydney South West School Sports Association is proud to acknowledge Brett Morrison as the outstanding sportsman of the Area in 2003 and deserving recipient of the President’s Award.

Westfields Sports High School

Jade, a student from Westfields Sports is the outstanding sportswoman of the Sydney South West Area in 2003.

Jade’s unique talent is reflected by her commitment to both School and Association Hockey at the elite level. Her efforts have been recognised in 2003 with Jade receiving the Area Blue for Hockey.

Jade has represented Sydney South West since 2001 and in 2003 was Player of the Tournament at the NSW Combined High Schools Championships. Jade’s outstanding contributions gained her selection as NSW CHS Team Captain at this year’s International Hockey fest which NSW dominated.

In 2002 and 2003 Jade was selected in the NSW All Schools team. This year Jade’s exceptional leadership qualities were rewarded with the State Captaincy. Jade provided dynamic leadership for the NSW team as they were undefeated National Champions. Jade was consequently named Player of the Tournament and Captain of the Australian Under 16 School Girls team to tour South Africa in 2004.

At the Combined High Schools level Jade’s achievements have been recognized with the awarding of the CHS Blue as the most outstanding CHS Girls Hockey player.

In 2003 Jade was selected in the NSW Under 18s Indoor and Outdoor Hockey teams. Strong performances in both teams culminated with Jade’s selection in the Australian Youth Hockey Squad.

Jade is a diligent student who possesses inspirational leadership qualities. Her energetic and enthusiastic manner, combined with her exemplary sportsmanship has provided younger players with a quality role model, gaining the respect of both officials and her peers.

It is with great pleasure that Sydney South West acknowledge Jade Close as the recipient of the 2003 President’s Award.

Joven Clarke

Westfields Sports High School

Joven Clarke is a highly talented all round sportsman who has taken Schoolboy Rugby League and Track and Field Athletics by storm.

As a Westfields Sports High student, Joven has been a supurb role model.

He has represented the Sydney South West Area in Athletics for the past four years, at the NSW Combined High Schools Championships as well as NSW All Schools and the Pacific School Games. During this time Joven has won 8 Gold & 5 Silver medals, as well as creating six new records.

Joven's speed has been utilised to advantage on the football field. As a Rugby League representative for Sydney South West Area over the past three years, Joven's resume is extremely impressive.

He was selected in 1998 in the NSW Combined High Schools, NSW Schoolboys and Australian schoolboy Under 15 years teams.

In 2000 he was named "Most Valuable Player" at the Metropolitan trials, selected in the NSW Combined High Schools team, NSW Schoolboys and at the Australian Championships in Wynnum, Queensland was selected in the Australian Schoolboys Team.

Joven is an impressive young man. His successful sporting career has not changed his attitude or approach to school, friends or life in general.

He demonstrates great drive to succeed and the ability to focus his talents for optimum results.

The Sydney South West School Sports Association is proud to acknowlege Joven Clarke as the outstanding sportsman of the Area in 2000 and deserving recipient of the Presidents Award.

Shannon Hill

Westfields Sports High School

Shannon a student at Westfields Sports High School, is the quality Track athlete for the Sydney South West Area in 2000.

Shannon has an exceptional list of achievements at an Area, State and National level. At the Area Championship Shannon won the 400m, 800m, 1500m and 3000m events, setting new records in both 800m and 1500m. Shannon's efforts at the recent C.H.S Championships which included one gold, one silver and two bronze medals, was highleghted by an amazing performance in the 2000m steeplechase, when she broke the record by thirty seconds.

This year she had the honour of Captaining the Australian Athletic team at the Commonwealth Youth Games in Scotland. In an outstanding result, Shannon won the Gold Medal in the 1500m.

At the 2000 Pacific School Games, Shannon also won the 1500m while finishing second in the 3000m and third in the Steeplechase. She is the Australian Under 20 Champion in the 2000m Steeplechase event.

Shannon's success can be attributed to her dedication to training and her positive attitude to competition. Shannon is a role model to younger athletes and displays the outstsnding sportsmsnship qualities we expect from our champions.

Shannon Hill is highly deserving of the honour of the 2000 Sydney South West Area Blue in Athletics.
