Bradley Sharne, of Smithfield, has been chosen to represent NSW in the pentathlon event at the National Athletics
Championships on Saturday, April 26.
The 15-year-old earned selection for the nationals in Melbourne when he took out the silver medal at the State Multis
in Orange.
He can run, he can jump, he can throw. He can do it all.
His pet event is the discus, but since joining Westfield Sports High School Bradley has
developed into the complete package.
"Going to Westfields has helped me out so much," Bradley said. "They really focus on the technical aspects which has been
really good for me."
The Smithfield Athletics Club captain will compete in the under16s 100metres, 800metres, hurdles, long jump and discus
events for the chance to clinch the under16s gold medal.
"My goal is to win a medal first, second or third, it doesn't really matter to me."
With a personal best throw of 59.92metres in the discus, Bradley may need to eclipse the 60metre barrier in order to
claim a medal.
He is determined to represent Australia but is currently focused on his short-term goal the 2009 World Youth Games in
Italy. "That's the short-term goal but I'd love to go to the Olympics one day."
Westfield Sports athletics director Dan Suchy described Bradley as one of the most promising young athletes in the
school's development program.
"He works really hard," Suchy said. "He has started sprint and long-jump training, a facet which he wasn't doing before."
With thanks
