ATHLETICS all-rounder Brad Jenner is soaring to great heights in his chosen discipline the pole vault.

The Westfields Sports High School student won gold in the event at the USA Down Under Tour in Brisbane recently.

Jenner also won a silver medal for his performance in the under-16 high jump.

“I was pretty happy to be standing on the podium,” he said.

The Fairfield Advance Junior Sports Star nominee is no stranger to accolades; he won the pole vault at the NSW All Schools championships and a bronze in the same event at the national competition.

His next challenge will be the Pacific School Games in Canberra in November.

The Mt Pritchard resident also hopes to qualify for next year’s World Youth Athletics Championships in Italy.

“It will be a great experience,” he said.

Jenner has competed in discus, shot put, javelin, 1500m and relay events in his athletic career.

He said the pole vault was probably the most challenging.

“I’ve fallen on the track a few times it’s all part of training.

“When you’re up there all you think about is getting over the bar.”

Jenner’s sporting idol is Steve Hooker, the Australian who won the pole vault at the Beijing Olympics.
