US TALENT scouts could pencil the name of Westfields Sports baseball pitcher Matthew
Rae in their notebooks when they visit Australia later this year.
Matthew, 17, of Greastanes, was just selected in a 6o-man Australian Academy squad which
heads to the Gold Coast for a six-week training camp on June 30.
Talent scouts from the US major league will be on hand to see some of Australia's rising
stars in action.
Representing his state for the first time, Matthew caught the eyes of selectors in an
impressive display for the victorious NSW under 18s side at the national championships in
Geelong in January.
On top of his national honours, he was also selected for the NSW Institute of Sport squad.
"My goal is to sign a contract with a US team. I'd also love to play for Australia at the Olympics."
He plays club baseball for Blacktown Workers on the weekends and threw his first pitch at 10.
"I love everything about the game and having a bit of fun with my mates."
