Cory Pringle is the first Aboriginal youngest to be selected in the NSW under-16’s junior team and will compete at this year’s World youth Series Cup.

The international event will be held in Japan, starting July 22.

The Casula Lakers Baseball Club catcher said he was delighted with the honour.

“This is my first selection in a NSW Team,” Cory, 15, said.

“It’s an opportunity for me to play against the best teams my own age in Japan.”

Cory’s mother, Shannon, said her son was also the first Aboriginal student to be named school captain of Lurnea Public School.

Liverpool-based Kari Aboriginal Resources Incorporated has also assisted with Cory’s sporting and academic endeavours.

Cory, a scholarship student in Year 10 at Westfields Sports High School, said playing baseball was one of his true loves.

“I started playing baseball with Casula when I was five,” he said.

“I love the game.”

Making the NSW team for Japan means the teenager has to find some cash. “I have to raise $3,500 to cover my airfare and expenses,” he said.

Anyone able to help Cory's fundraising efforts should call him on 0431 728 655.
