TALENTED trio Simon Keen, Steven Burt and Brendon Gregory have just returned from a highly successful schoolboy
tour of England.
The Westfields trio went to England as part of the school's tour, where two teams represented - the first XI and the
under-14 side.
Westfields head cricket coach Ian Gill accompanied the team and returned with glowing reports.
"Both teams did well; the younger boys in Year 7 will benefit from such a tour and so will the senior students in the
first XI," Gill said.
"It was a trip of a lifetime; all the boys had a good time. Not only did it enhance their cricket but it has also
|
given them a new perspective of life in another part of the world."
The trio also plays for Bankstown Green Shield under-16 representative team, which last season under Gill's stewardship
won the competition undefeated.
Keen, 15, played in the first XI team, which went through the English tour undefeated.
The stylish left-handed batsman was consistent on tour, producing a highest score of 55 and in the match against
St Albans finished with the impressive bowling figures of 3-3.
Burt, 14, and Gregory, 13, both played in Westfields' under-14 age team on the English
|
trip, which won six of it's seven games.
Gill said Burt bowled well on tour, with his medium-pacers suiting the English wickets.
Ironically, Burt enrolled in the school's swimming program but switched to cricket only a year ago.
Leg-spinner Gregory is a developing allrounder, with his batting improving all the time, says Gill. The youngster made
43 in the final game on the tour, earmarking him as an improver with the willow in his hands.
"The under-14 team's form was outstanding... we made three times as many runs as their opponents in the matches," Gill said.
With thanks
