Westfields Sports High School has bowled over it's fifth Year 7-8 division
state indoor cricket title in eight years.
It had defeated William Carey, Mid-North Western Regional and St Peters high schools,
The Mid-North win was collossal - 108 - 38.
However this 60 point pales in comparrison to the injury they inflicted on Willian Clarke high
which bore the brunt of a 129 - 2 thrashing by Westfields in the opening round of the
competition.
Captain, Simon Keen, 14, from Penrith, attributes the team's results this year to above-average
bowling and batting.
"The first two games of the competition were easy ones, but the scores from the last three games
really don't indicate how tough the teams were," he said.
"We were lucky to make it to the finals because we lost Grant Kew with a broken finger.
If we had one more person injured we wouldn't have been able to field a team."
Player of the tournament, Joshua Lalor, 14, from Penrith, has a different account: He believes
the other teams lost their enthusiasm towards the end of the games. "They were hard games but
our team worked together more efficeintly," he said.
Others might argue the point that having two outdoor cricket Emerging Blues players in the team did
much to boost their chances.
They are Keen and Lalor
The pair will play for the Blues against a number of Sydney regional teams for a place in the
Sydney mertopolitian team which is due to play Country early next year.
