Aim
Dance is co-ordinated by the Performing Arts Faculty. The aim is to train dancers in the
following dance styles : contemporary, jazz, tap and cheer leading. High order accomplishment
of skills and technique of these styles provides the basis for elective dance in the School
Certificate and Higher School Certificate courses.
Courses Offered
Year 7/8 Sport Enrichment students are expected to be at dance class on time and with the
correct dance attire (navy blue sleeveless leotard, black dance pants, 3/4 black tights and
black jazz shoes or boots for all practical dance lessons.
Year 9/10 Dance is an elective subject studied over two years as a component of the School
Certificate. Dancers will be studying both the theoretical components (appreciation) and
continuing the learning of dance styles (performance).
Year 11/12 Dance is studied over two years as a 2U Higher School Certificate subject. Dancers
will continue to study performance and appreciation and will have composition added to their
studies. The practical component is worth 60% of the Higher School Certificate.
Course Structure
Year 7/8 Sport Enrichment participate in two practical sessions of dance per week. Year 9/10
Dance have one double period technique session per week and one double period of appreciation
/ composition on a rotation basis. Year 11/12 Dance participate in three double period lessons
per week.
Dance students are expected to be part of Dance Company or Dance Ensemble Group. These are multi
year groups which train one afternoon per week. Students are expected to be available and in
attendance at these training times.
