| By Isabell Petrinic Boys: WESTFIELDS Sports High def Bossley Park High 1-0 Girls: Westfields Sports High def Endeavour Sports High 5-0. It may be time to make a permanent space for the Commonwealth Bank Cup in Westfields Sports High School's trophy cabinet. On Friday night, Westfields, boys won the much- coverted schoolboys trophy for the eighth consecutive year, beating neighbouring school Bossley Park High1-0, to steal the game and the prize. This is the third year run- ning that Bossley Park has Met Westfields in the final Meanwhile, Westfields girls proved equally unforgiving on the park, defeating End- eavour Sports High, 5-0, in the final to win for the fifth consecutive year. |
The girls dominated play from the outset, rarely-if ever-having to defend their own half. Midfielder Lisa Gatt opened the scoring for Westfields in the 15th minute with a hard - hitting shot from the 20 - metre line. Just two minutes later, team- mate Julie Bazi tapped in another. After the break, Westfields' striker Catherine Cannuli - is also a member of the national title-holding NSW Under-14 team-proved her prowess on the park, scoring two beauties. The first- a running shot came after only two minutes into the second half, while the second- an in-credible 30 metre shot found the back of the net 28 minutes later. In the first half, both teams found it difficult to penetrate the others, defence, and going into half-time, the scores were locked at nil a piece.
