TRIP TO WATCH OLYMPIC SELECTION

Sunday 29th June 2008, 17 Westfields gymnasts and coaches travelled to the AIS to watch the final Olympic Selection Trial. We met at the high school at 6.30am and arrived in Canberra at 10.00am ready to watch the warm up.

It was very exciting and the girls were allowed on the competition floor. After watching Australia's final top 9 girls fight for the top six places, the Westfields girls saw the Aussies fighting with all they had to get a spot on the team.

They saw skills that they have only dreamt of or seen on the TV, like double layout and yurchenko double twist. It was also very inspirational for our top international level 10 girls to see the skills they are learning the drills for in action on the competition floor.

After the competition the girls were able to get a photo with the top Australian gymnasts, and each of their autographs. (Please see photo)

The girls had a great time on the bus, and we had 4x DVD players playing 'Nadia' (a gymnastic story about Nadia Comaneci).

A weary bunch by the time of 6.00pm when the parents picked them up again from Westfields Sports.
