Sweet taste of revenge

  By David Ricco
Remaining undefeated throughout the 2004 CHS Netball Knockout, the girls from Westfields Sports High were on a mission from the beginning.
In the exact tournament last yearthey were forced to hand over their trophy that they'd secured in 2002 and the girls were determined to get it back.
With a training regime that began at the start of this year of two weight sessions and one court session per week, Westfields Sports High obviously only had one thing on their mind.
The fact the girls would have to ply it from the vice-like grip of Endeavour Sports High, who were responsible for their demise last year, made victory just that little bit sweeter.
Finishing on top of over 250 schools from as far north as Kingscliffe and as far south as Albury, Westfields stood tall at the Bellingara Netball Centre last Wednesday.
"They're very good athletes the Endeavour girls, so this is a win that is very special," coach of Westfields Joanne Macdermid said.
"It's a win that has been earned through hard work and determination which begam from the beginning of this year."
And in the end, the final result was never in doubt. With an all-guns blazing approach, Westfields stunned their arch-rivals Endeavour which saw them leading at every quarter until securing a commanding 39-19 victory.
Adding to Westfields stunning performance was their line-up of relatively younger faces in the team.
Just one Year 12 student made the Westfields team this year, with a rich blend of Year 11 to 9 students taking up the cause. Michelle Fletcher, the lone Year 12 figure said she was excited about the girls future.
"I'm just wrapped. The experience theses girls will get from playing such quality opposition who are also older than them will help them for years to come," she said.
"I'm the only one who won't be back next year, which this team should be able to stay together and become even stronger."
Equally as strong was the boys competition, which over the two-day carnival left the crowds enthralled at their skill level.
