Sunday 19th August saw the Westfield's Netballers take to the courts en masse. With four teams
entered across the three divisions, expectations for success were high.
The Year 7 team, coached by Year 11 student Natasha McKay, were outstanding through the round matches. Ashleigh Cassilles and Patricia Loau were solid in defence all day, while Chanel Stanley provided speedy attacking skills in the goal circle at the other end. Eventually the girls met the more mature Monte Saint Angelo players in the Grand Final and were unable to match this extra physical size. |

In the intermediate section the two Westfields teams were always destined to meet. Showing
strength in defence and attack meants each team was a front runner in their sections. Unfortunately
the meeting of the teams took place in the semi-final with Intermediate Gold team being the victors
after an enthrallingly tough, physical encounter.
The battle for the grand final berth seemed to have taken it's toll on the Gold team though, as they had little left to give in this game. Grand Final Number three for the Westfield's players had a different result to the previous two. With accurate shooting by Sam Savva and driving mid-court play by Aimee Zuzul and Kaiya Donovan this team never looked anything other than winners! The host school, SCEGGS, put up a gallant fight in the final but Westfields Open Netballers won 16-10. With a dominance across the divisions the Champion School Trophy was never in doubt. A second year for Westfields winning this title. Congratulations to all players on their fine playing performances and thanks to all the parents for their assistance and support throughout the day. |
