A COOL head under pressure and heightened court awareness are two essential skills for a netballer - and Taneka Lewis
has them in spades.
The Westfields Sports student, 15, is the Fairfield Advance's latest Junior Sports Star nominee.
Lewis spends a great deal of time on the court between playing for her school's open team, Fairfield City District Netball
Association's 15 and under representative side and her club team.
But she wouldn't have it any other way.
The talented goal attack and goal shooter is destined for big things as a netballer and has improved in leaps and bounds
under Westfields' head coach Jo Macdermid.
"I've been coaching her since she was in Year 7 and she's progressed a lot in that time," Ms Macdermid said.
"She has a lot more strength and confidence in her ability to shoot, as well as her ability to go to the post.
"Confidence is very important for a shooter and she's already proven herself."
Ms Macdermis said Lewis had all the great aspects of her preferred position; goal attack.
"She's got great speed and has a great awareness of where the other shooter is," she said. "Taneka can feed the ball very
well and has great court awareness. She also plays up several ageswhich is a big thing for her age.
