| Meet Our Athletes---------------------------------National Medallist |
| Robert Boateng----------------------------Year 8, (13) | ||
| Robert was still only 12 years and 10 months old when he set the Pacific Schools Games on fire with his awesome triple-gold performance. The media hounded him with television and newspaper interviews. Even 2UE's Alan Jones, who saw the C7 News report, talked about Robert's achievements live on his morning program asking Robert to contact him live on-air. In fact, probably never before has so much pressure been put on one of our athletes. The Daily Telegraph and local papers had been writing stories about Robert for weeks in advance of the Games. | Personal Bests:

He
was surrounded by television crews after his victory in the 200 metre
final and primary school students swarmed around him during the
interview reaching at him with autograph books.
Robert handled the press with modest composure. He had already won two gold medals, but the pressure was on him in the blue ribbon event; the 100 metre final. The heats had been close with Robert only hundredths of a second faster than the other top sprinter from S. Africa. Westfields' Principal, Leading Teacher, and Sports Director were all present to witness the final. Robert had been advised by coach Max not to attend the PSG outing to Wonderland two days earlier in order to rest his legs and Robert complied; even though, unlike most, he had never been before. Jokingly, WAC had promised to send Robert to Wonderland if he won. That was all the motivation he needed and Robert won in the sizzling time of 11.70 seconds. Robert Boateng now becomes WAC's first ever Pacific Games sprint-double Champion; and yes we have done a deal with Wonderland and are sending the entire Boateng family for their first trip to Australia's Wonderland! |
