Westfields Breeding Success
It’s been a busy month yet again for ex-Westfields Sports High students across the world as the former graduates continue
to do well for their club and country.
Socceroo Jason Culina played against Liverpool in the Champions League quarter final over the last two weeks and even
though they failed to qualify for the semi-finals, Culina did Australia proud.
Fellow Socceroo defender Michael Beechamp’s Nurnberg are currently doing really well in the German Bundesliga and
the strapping star has cemented himself amongst the starting eleven.
Mark Bridge, Nathan Burns, Danny Vukovic and Trent McClenahan have all been involved in Olympic qualifiers
over the past month.
While Burns has also been involved in the Asian Champions League for Adelaide United, as has Alex Brosque and
David Carney for Sydney F.C.
Heather Garriock and Sarah Walsh are continuing to represent Australia in the Matildas squad, while current
students Ashleigh Connor at U20’s level, and at U17’s level – Stephanie Haim have also won a cap.
A terrific statistic for the Sydney based sports school has been that they currently have 14 ex-students playing professional
ly in Europe, 8 in the A-League and another dozen in the NSW Premier League.
Football coach Trevor Morgan has been more than impressed about his past graduates efforts on the football pitch but
hopes that more finances can improved school facilities for better development.
“Developing these talents with the dream of a life in professional football is something Westfields do well. As we look for
more talented to enter the program through trials, we also need greater corporate support to help develop better facilities
for players to use. The more work we do, the greater strain on the school facilities.”
We thank the
