Hard work pays off

MICHAEL Araco and Thomas Khoury are keen swimmers, great mates and compete for the same club Smithfield Amateur Swimming Club.
The teenagers are under the watchful eye of coach Bruce Edmunds, training nine times a week and clocking up the kilometres in the pool.
Araco and Khoury, both 14, of St Johns Park, have been at Smithfield Swim Centre for the past five years.
Michael attends Westfields Sports High School and Thomas is at Freemans Catholic College, Bonnyrigg.
"Michael and Thomas are both real improvers," Edmunds tols The Advance
"They work hard at training, knuckle down and are good distance swimmers and their times have been certainly improved.
"Thomas and Michael are both promising breaststroke swimmers."
Araco, who is a pocket rocket in the pool", standing about 150cm, said Edmunds' coaching methods have helped him shave seconds off his swim times.
"Bruce has worked hard with my technique and I an now swimming faster," he said.
Khoury said: "I feel stronger now and Bruce has also really improved my times."
Edmunds said both boys were also good individual medley swimmers.
Araco recently finished first in the 14 years age group at the Barry Richards 5km endurance event at Penrith

Lakes, as well as swimming his age group at the 5km Hawkesbury open water event.
Khoury had a top ten finish in the Penrith event and at Hawkesbury finished fifth in the 14 years age category.
In the next few weeks the duo, like many other swimmers at the Smithfield club, have a host of big meets and championships approaching.
