Young gun Amanda Pascoe

Two of Fairfield's rising sports stars shone at the Greater West Sports Foundation annual awards last week, taking away best individual male and female honours.
Greenfield Park swimmer and Commonwealth Games silver medalist Amanda Pascoe made a big splash by taking out best individual female award.
Also serving it up was Green Valley and Club Marconi tennis star David Jeflea who took out best male award.
Jeflea, who trains at Club Marconi under Stewart Whicker has also enjoyed a great year, crowned
under 16 singles and doubles national grasscourt champion.
He competed in the Australian Open Juniors and won the ITF under 18 doubles tournament in Darwin in July.
Recently he represented Australiain the International Teams event which beat Japan in the finals during a month -longtour of Asia, where he lost in three sets to current US Open junior champion and number two world junior Jo-Wilfried Tosnga, of France, in the Osaka Mayors Cup in Japan. Pascoe's award was accepted by her father Kevin.
Pascoe, 19, returns home
on Tuesday from high altitude training in Arizona, USA, with the NSW Institute of Sport squad which includes fellow national swimming
team mates Elke Graham, Ian Thorpe, Kirsten Thompson and Jim Piper. There will be no time for rest as she will compete at the Qantas Skins at Homebush the following day before heading to Melbourne to swim at a World Cup meet and attend swimmer of the yea awards.
Pascoe recently switched coaches and is now under the eye of Tracey Manzies at Sutherland Liesure Centre, where she has world champion Ian Thorpe as a training
partner.
The defending Three-times 800 metre national champion has completed at two world championships and one Commonwealth Games. Pascoe anf Jeflea are both former Westfields Sports
High School
students.
The Greater West Sports Foundation is funded bt the State Government and local businesses which supportyoung athletes striving to achieve their dreams.
