Advantage with Atelj at Masters
By Angelina Dragar
Westfields Sports High School is churning out some great tennis talents.
Danilio Zivanovic and Anna-Marie Atelj are just two who have had recent success.
Atelj, 15, won the Nike Australian Junior Masters championship in Melbourne, while Zivanovic is off to New Mexico State University in early January on a scholarship.
The Nike Australian Junior Masters was held at Melbourne park from Monday, December 3, to Friday, December 7.
It was run in the same format as the World Tennis Masters held at Homebush, where Lleyton Hewitt became the world number one.
As a result of her achievements, Cecil Hills resident Atelj has received a one year scholarship from Tennis Australia and will be part of their

Atelj started playing at nine when she turned up at a tennis camp run by Sally Dingwall.
She has now been coached by Dingwall for nearly six years at Club Marconi.
At the Masters, Atelj won her first match 6-2 6-1 against Julieanne Welford (Queensland).
She won her second 6-2 6-1 against Karolina Wlodarczak (Vic) and her third 6-2 6-2 against Jessica Engels (Vic). She beat doubles partner Jessica Hoath (Queensland) 7-5 2-6 6-4 in her semifinal and then won the final 6-0 6-4 against Engels (Vic).

The junior event hosted the top eight 14-year-olds in Australia. They were placed in two pools of four, playing everyone in their pool. The top two from each pool then played off in semifinals, with the winners meeting in the final.
Year 12 student Danilio Zivanovic is off to New Mexico State University in early January on a four year tennis scholarship after having been scouted during the Australian junior open earlier this year.
Zivanovic said he was excited about the new turn in his life.
"It is a good opportunity with my game." he said. "I hope to play professional one day."

Last year at the national championships he was ranked 20th.
The scholarship is worth US$15,000 a year and covers his tuition, books, room, board and equipment.
Zivanovic has just completed his HSC at Westfields, studying advanced English, two unit maths, economics, legal studies and accounting (TAFE).
He will study for an accounting degree at New Mexico.
