From the Principal's Desk
On behalf of the Westfields Sports community I would like to thank the outgoing captain’s Chloe and Jeffrey and the 2005 Student Representative council members for their outstanding leadership - the success of their initiatives in assisting so many worthy causes must be acknowledged and congratulated. Charities, which benefited from the hard work of our SRC includes Jeans for Genes, Shave for a Cure and Legacy and who could forget the fun of Valentine’s Day.

Congratulations to all students upon their election and we look forward to an exciting 2006. At a later date the Parents and Citizens Association will present blazers to all Year 12 officeholders.

Year 12 is nearing the end of their school year as they prepare for the Higher School Certificate. It has been very positive to talk to each student as they sign their HSC identification forms. Parents are invited to the Graduation Assembly on the morning of Wednesday 21st September. Year 12 students thoroughly enjoyed the inspirational talk by noted public speaker John Coutis. They were amused, captivated and influenced by the words and achievements of a man who have overcome great adversity.

Congratulations to the eleven students who have made the Tafe Worldskills Regional finals. Courses include Hospitality, Retail, Tourism, Automotives. Well done. Our Vocational Education Program was audited last week and came through with ‘flying colours’. A big thank you to the Hospitality and Retail teachers for all their work. These courses give great breadth to our curriculum.

Westfields Sports has many support classes to assist students with their literacy skills. ELLA and other tests indicates which students have special needs. It is disappointing that numbers of these students and parents are not interested in accessing this offered assistance.
