From the Principal's desk.
On Friday 27th May the Department of Education and Training has requested Westfields Sports to host the launch of a sponsorship arrangement between the DET and Integral Energy. The announcement will take place in our Stadium and will be followed by a game of Basketball between our boys and girls and a celebrity team including NSW Minister for Education the Honourable Carmel Tebbutt and West Sydney Razorback’s stars. The Chief Executive Officer of Integral Energy and Senior officials of the Department of Education and Training, along with the Parents and Citizens Association President, Mrs Turnbull will also be in attendance. Visiting our school on that same day will be a delegation from the Victorian Department of Education, which is seeking advice on the establishment of a Sports school in Melbourne.
It is time to review the performances of students in Year 12 and 11 following the examinations. There is time to make positive and significant academic improvements. Students must be at school and on time to class. In view of the problem of satisfying student demand for classes at subject selection time preference will be given to students who have a positive pattern of attendance, punctuality and behaviour. This approach is fairer than first in, or drawing names out of a hat. Students should be encouraged to select subjects for which they are suited by aptitude and attitude. In this way academic outcomes can continue to be maximized.
Do not forget “Arts in the Dark” on Tuesday evening for a wonderful celebration of the Performing Arts. Inclement weather forced a postponement of our earlier evening.
Congratulations to our swimmers at All-Schools – Michael, Stephanie and Corey. Congratulations to Cricket for an excellent Presentation Evening on Tuesday. Well done.
I received a great fax from the Honourable Joseph Tripodi announcing that ‘tenders have been called for Stage 3, Phase 1 of a major upgrade at Westfields Sports High School.’ The Stage 3 upgrade will be carried out in two phases – Phase 1 comprises renovations to Block J, including an upgrade of:
• Four Technology & Applied Studies (TAS) spaces
• A general learning space
• A seminar project store
• Wood technology bay dust extractor
Phase 2 comprises – construction of a new 2-storey building containing
• Six classrooms
• Two stores
• Car spaces for 66 cars
• Storm water detention
WOW – performances by Pacific Alliance on all three assemblies. A special thanks to all the students and parents involved. Well-done Mr & Mrs Maa. Have a look at the photographs on the back page.
